The
National Roads Institute (Instituto
Nacional de Vías, INVIAS) began functioning on January first, 1994, by
means of the 2171 decree of December 30, 1992. This decree created a public
establishment of national order, with legal status, management independence and
patrimony, ascribed to the Ministry of Transportation, which had as objective
the execution of politics and projects related to the road infrastructure the
Nation was charged with.
During
the strengthening of the Transporting sector, INVIAS assumed new functions as
well, and its internal structure was changed with Decrees N° 2056 and 2067 of
July 24, 2003.
As an organism ascribed to the Ministry of Transportation,
the National Roads Institute belongs to the Executive Branch of the Government.
The nearly 13 thousand kilometers of the country's
road infrastructure are, in short, the reason we exist. That is why day to day,
we look after the 7 trunk terminals, which cover our territory from North to
South, and after the 8 transversal terminals, which link the trunk terminals in
their East to West path. |
